Without going too deeply into the subject, we believe there are two ways to assign your website translation project:

• Have your website translated by a translation agency then pass it on to a website developer company which creates the Spanish version using the translated text; OR
• Entrust the whole work (i.e. translation, layout and design) to one single Website Translation Service Provider.

The inconvenience of the first option is obvious: web designers have to work with texts written in a language they probably cannot speak, with the subsequent greater chance of making mistakes.

The second option implies the joint work of Spanish translators and web designers, which minimizes the margin of error, speeds up the process and reduces inconveniences.

Website Translation Process

As a Website Translation Service Provider, in SpanishTranslators.biz we take the following steps to ensure the quality, suitability and functionality of our Website Translation Service:

• Step 1: We carry out a thorough Analysis of the Website to be translated into Spanish, identifying which sections are worth translating, i.e. the content which is relevant to the Spanish speaking community. In this sense, we take into account not only the visible content, but also the meta information contained in keywords, description, title and alt text. This analysis also detects the technologies used in the development of the website (php or asp in database driven websites, flash, javascript, ajax). In the case of large database-driven websites, a copy of such database in its original format, plain text or csv format will be required, so we have an exact view of the website content.
• Step 2: A website translation proposal and cost estimate is drawn up, including for static websites (not database-driven) a list of all the files to be translated. If we are dealing with a website with server-side code (asp or php) whether populated from a database or not, we will only be able to give an approximate cost estimate, to be confirmed when we have received a copy of the whole website plus its database, if any. We will only use this information for the purposes of drawing up an exact cost estimate, with full confidentiality guarantee. Our proposal will also contain a checklist of all the information needed for an adequate website translation into Spanish. In addition, any improvement suggestion for the original website will be made.
• Step 3: When accepted, our website translation proposal shall be deemed as a translation service agreement between the parties. The client shall provide the designated Project Manager with all the material and information as stated in our proposal. Having collected all the material needed, the following step is then taken.
• Step 4: Depending on the size of the website, i.e. its amount of translatable text and coding potential, the work will be carried out by one single translator with the support of a designated web developer; OR it will be consistently divided and assigned to a team of translators, who will create and use a commom web-based terminology database, ensuring the coherence of the translated text throughout the website. This team of translators will also receive the support of one or several web developers. In any case, most of our translators have a good command of HTML coding and web design.
• Step 5: Once the translators have carried out their work in cooperation with the designated web developer, and every piece of information has been put in its place, a senior Spanish translator will review the final translated website, taking into account the following aspects:
  • Accuracy of the translated text with respect to the original text.
  • Suitability of the transtaled website for the target audience.
  • Adequate implementation of the link to the Spanish version.
  • Accessibility of the resulting product.
  • Review the translated website against our internal website translation quality assurance checklist (images with text, flash movies, labels, hidden texts, and many more).
